We got into DC at about ten that night. As we were driving down the highway we heard this awful scratching noise coming from under the RV. I was in the front so I looked in the passenger side mirror and saw sparks flying. After about thirty seconds the sounds and the sparking stopped. We pulled off the highway at the first available place and got out to examen the damage. After glancing around in the dark we concluded that we had left a large piece of our exhaust behind us.
We shrugged got back into the vehicle and drove the rest of the way. The next day we drove to Mount Vernon and enjoyed George Washington’s beautiful house. We enjoyed posing in front of trees that George Washington himself had planted. We looked into a really awesome doll house sized model of Mount Vernon. Julia hit her head on the almost invisible glass at least three times. I think everyone enjoyed sitting on the banks of the Potomac river behind Mount Vernon and just reveling in the view and soaking in the fresh breeze.
After watching the short dramatization of the winter in Valley Forge and the victory over the prussians we headed back to our boiling hot RV. On the way we spotted a Wal Mart and decided to make a quick stop. Unfortunatly it wasn’t a super Wal Mart so there wasnt any food inside so we had to get huge amounts of food from Sam’s Club. Papa and the kids waited in the RV while Grammy and I went into Sam’s and Mommy went into the Wal Mart.
After putting away what we could we got back into the RV and turned our sights to Cherry Hill RV Park where we would be staying for the next week. We took a better look at our exhaust problems when we arrived and concluded that the exhaust pipe pointing directly up at the RV was probably not a good thing and that we should get that fixed before heading to Philly.
And so began our adventures in our Nations capital.
